Recopy your topic sentence. Circle the literary element. Underline the text identification. Draw a box around the theme. Put parentheses around any words that can be taken out without losing the meaning of your sentence.
In groups, choose one sentence from one paragraph and write it on the board.
- Circle the term used for the plot element.
- Underline the example from the text or quotation.
- Draw a box around the link to the theme.
- Put parentheses around any words that can be taken out.
Now on paper, write each sentence of your own paragraph separately and identify the parts in the same way.
If any parts are missing, add them to your sentence. There should be one sentence for each of the three plot/structure elements you have chosen. Consider whether sentences that are missing all or most parts should be kept in. Edit out all unnecessary words.
