Your essay complete draft with the checklist was due on Monday. You must see me with your first draft before writing the final draft, which is due this coming Monday, December 5. Each part of the essay assignment is worth 5%.

Homework 13: Act 1

In Act I of Tomson Highway’s play The Rez Sisters, the characters have multiple conflicts in their relationships with each other. These conflicts stem from a personal problem or unmet need or desire of the individual characters.

Choosing the character you read in class, explain how that character’s struggle creates conflicts with others.

Poetry Analysis for Storytelling Project

Listen to and/or read and analyze a poem by an Indigenous writer.

  • How does this poem incorporate traditional elements or teachings?
  • What aspect of contemporary Indigenous society does this poem present?
  • Does this poem articulate a conflict between Indigenous and colonial societies?
  • How does this poem relate to your own life?

Homework 12: personal storytelling project

Draw a map of your community and the places where you have learned the lessons you are writing about. Your map drawing can extend to include whatever elements you think are relevant. It does not have to be accurate or include everything — just the things that are important to you! This should be handed in on paper next class. This is a creative assignment, so have fun drawing and colouring this in whatever style you like.

Poetry Essay

Once your outline and introduction have been approved, you will write your complete essay of 750 words, using the essay-checklist handout as a guideline. Your essay must be typed in MLA format e1-0-mla-term-paper-format-1 and submitted without a cover page.

You must make sure you can check each item on the essay checklist and submit it with your essay. The essay with the completed checklist is due on Monday, November 28.

Due dates

Essay Due Dates

You must hand in your essay outline and introduction in Michelle’s class on Wednesday. I will not be accepting late assignments on this occasion, as these must be returned to you on Thursday. There will be no more class time for this assignment. The full essay will be due on Monday, November 28. The revised essay will be due the following week, on December 5. The essay self-assessment will be due December 8, our final class. As we are so close to the end of term, these dates must be respected.

Storytelling Project Due Dates

The Poetry Analysis part of the storytelling project (300 words) will be due this Thursday, November 24.

The Drama Analysis part of the storytelling project (300-500 words) will be due electronically on December 9.
